Welcome back to the worst blog on the internet, Roblox xD (gaponmechest.blogspot.com). For this post, I'm going to explain what exactly Roblox is, and some of the history behind it. Roblox is a user-generated massively multiplayer online social gaming platform developed by Roblox Corperation. The game was released in 2006, but the first demos of the game were tested in 2004. Despite being released in 2006, the game still has 30 million active monthly players. The game allows players to create their own games within the platform, as well as playing games others have created. This element of the game is likely one of it's selling points, because it leaves the design of the games to it's community, rather than to the developers, resulting in a much larger amount of content than a team of developers would likely release. Roblox is free to play, but there are a multitude of in game purchases available. The game allows you to use real money to purchase the in-game currency called "Robux", which can be used to upgrade accessories or upgrades for your avatar. Upon starting the game, you are prompted to customize your avatar to your liking. The avatars look like the images below.
After you create your avatar you can choose what game to play, and spend however much time you want playing it. The freedom the game gives the player is likely another major selling point, and an explanation for the game's younger audience. Younger players don't care about graphics, or challenging levels, or complex story lines, like older players do. Younger players can get passed the graphical side of the game, and likely find it entertaining because there are many different difficulty levels to the game, so they are able to choose what fits their skill level, whereas older players likely want a game to have a higher difficulty. So that explains why the audience tends to be younger. Anyway, that's all the information I have for today, tune in next time... or don't.
